Worst Day of the Year

EXHIBIT A: NOR'EASTER ON THE WAY

Welcome to "The Gods Are Bored" on this, the worst day of the year!

What? You think nothing could best Friday the 13th?

Ha ha ha! You don't have a 13-year-old daughter, celebrating her birthday with 30 of her closest friends in your living room!

Is there a bored god of total mayhem? Ah, yes. Bacchus. Let's give a warm, "The Gods Are Bored" welcome to Bacchus, god of rowdy parties!

What am I thinking! The Spare is only 13!

Bacchus, be on your way. I've got to get back downstairs.

Reader, next time you're feeling sorry for yourself, think of this: My daughter The Spare was born on APRIL 15!

I thought of naming her Iris. Get it?

Whooo whoo whoooo!

"Iris".

Just don't let the Spare know you think of her as a Harpy.

Hey, could be worse... could've been March 15th and name her "Ida".

Especially if the family name was "Hoe."

Um, no? Am I missing something?

Iris = I.R.S., the Internal Revenue Service. That's the people who collect money from us every April 15 so that the government keeps humming along for another year.

The I.R.S. never quite collects enough to balance the budget, so the government raids the Social Security accounts and lawmakers snatch fistfuls of lucre from lobbyists.

Ergo, a poor soul born on April 15 and named Iris.

PS - The Spare's name is not Iris. She's named after her Mom Mom.

Iris' sisters are Harpies.

If the Spare would have been my best friend's daughter, she would have been named after her Mom Mom and her name STILL would have been Iris.

I love your puns, Merlin!
